Peaberry - Rare - Very Special

Peaberry, also known as caracoli, is a type of coffee bean. Normally the fruit of the coffee plant develops as two halves of a bean within a single cherry, but sometimes only one of the two seeds gets fertilized so there is nothing to flatten it. This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is known as Peaberry.

Typically around 5% of all coffee beans harvested are of this form, but we've been advised to expect only 3% with Kona Coffee.


Peaberry beans are widely reputed to roast better than regular "flat berries".

The theory is that they roast more evenly, because of their rounder shape. They are also thought to have higher bean density which may improve the heat that transfers thru it in the roasting process.

One major benefit of peaberry beans is that they have been carefully selected, which would help assure optimal quality. The sorting and selection process is very time consuming and much of it is done manually, bean by bean.

Please note that we normally accumulate and process orders that come in after Monday thru Sunday morning and then batch roast Sunday afternoon, ship out fast on Monday. If a flurry of orders come in after roasting Sunday thru early Monday we process a second batch on Monday afternoon and ship out on Tuesday. We do this so that our coffee will reach all destinations during the week rather than get stuck in a post office or mail truck over a weekend. We roast and then ship right out so that your coffee is in its PRIME -- we want you to have the very best experience of Kona Coffee!  **You can specify in the order instructions to ship ASAP instead of wait for the batch. Small coffee orders produced per the ASAP request may not be as optimal as the bigger batch runs would be, and could be subjected to more environmental stress if stored over the weekend in a hot mail truck or storage area.** 

During pre-Thanksgiving Week in November, in December from the 10th thru the 26th, during pre-New Years'  -- in consideration of slower mail delivery times and our customers' need for gift package wrapping and preparation for Holiday Events and Special Dinners -- we do ship "on demand" (as orders come in they are filled and shipped right out ASAP).
