Frequent questions about organic Kona coffee

Topic: BEST TIME TO ORDER: Should I order my coffee on the weekend or when?

We will hold orders for our organic Kona coffee until we have enough, THEN we make a batch to get it all out in one short process rather than make a bigger batch of coffee and wait for orders to fill. Sometimes we get orders in early mid week and slip thru another cycle. Often orders that come in late in the week we hold for processing and shipment for the beginning of the next week.

So, ideally we will process coffee very early in the week, the theory being that most people will be around during the week to pick up their mail, and that also most mail will run during the week, whereas later there is more risk of mail being in limbo.

Sometimes we have things that keep us from roasting that must be attended to, and so our cycle will slip from Monday to Tuesday. Even a Wednesday is good as most all our customers will still receive their product before the weekend.

Believe it or not but mail between here (our organic Kona coffee farm south of Kona on the big island of Hawaii) and the "Main Land" is fairly robust. We have no real “Express Mail”, and if you insisted on using it you would get your package no sooner than sending it the preferred “Priority Mail”.

So, short answer -- YOU CAN ORDER our organic Kona coffee ANYTIME because we will stagger the “ship out time” to make it go out early in the week so most people would get it in just a couple of days. This is perfect because once we have roasted and sealed the roasted coffee into the bags it will naturally degas. During that time period most coffee "fact bangers" believe that the flavors have not matured and developed, but after the degas process the flavor will have reached its intended density and it will remain at this density or quality or what we typically would call “the peak” for about a week, then somewhat noticeable there will be some weakened highs after a week but not drastic -- still, when you taste the difference between 3 day old prime coffee and 14 day old coffee there will be some difference you can pick up on. So, when you order and we roast, your organic Kona coffee is actually reaching its peak as it is in shipment from Hawaii!

We have had the unusual experience of having found some coffee for sale that had expired over three years ago. It was stored in a zip top pouch similar to what we use, with the one-way air valve. We ground and perked the coffee, and to our surprise it was a very decent pot of coffee, we drank it all. Of course it was a type we were not familiar with -- but it tasted great. So try even older coffee you may have -- it may well be worth the effort!

Coffee will have value even past the initial prime or “peak” period. You have to remember many people find their coffee on shelves and yet they come back to buy again, so coffee after several weeks is not tasteless or of no value at all, it is just that for this nice of a product and knowing that there is “that extra plus” at the prime period of the coffee’s roasted life, one should strive to get the best experience and that will be from freshly roasted, fast-delivered coffee beans that are perked within the first several weeks...we can help you with that, since the first part of the equation is getting your organic coffee freshly roasted in the first place, and here at Kona Comfort Coffee we take measures to ensure your order is fresh each and every time!
